Durham, North Carolina – Local Start Dental, a new, state-of-the-art, non-profit dental practice in downtown Durham, is changing the game for adults seeking dentures, dental implants, and full mouth reconstruction procedures. The staff dentists who lead Local Start are all dental specialists, “prosthodontists”, who have been faculty members of leading dental schools.
The clinic utilizes an impressive complement of advanced dental technology to improve outcomes for patients over traditional methods. Examples include an Ivoclar PM7 milling machine, a high-capacity Carbon 3D printer and two SprintRay Pro S printers, all used in producing high-end CAD/CAM dentures as well as two top-end Carestream Cone Beam systems for safe and thorough 3D imaging. Dental implants are provided by two of the preeminent manufacturers, Straumann and BioHorizons. With its onsite digital design and fabrication laboratory, Local Start employs two Certified Dental Technicians.
The result? Lower fees, fewer visits, and most importantly, advanced prosthetics that fit better, last longer, and look great. This allows adults in pain and those facing societal barriers due to missing or compromised teeth to have smiles and confidence restored sooner and more affordably.
Joe DeSimone, co-founder of Carbon and a founding board member of Local Start Dental, believes the 3D printer has the potential to transform the ability for all people to have access to excellent dental care. Carbon has the world’s first FDA approved 3D printed dentures. “I am excited about offering this technology to Local Start’s patients. Through this partnership, we are helping people to have great oral health care while making a difference in their lives,” says DeSimone.
“Our unique approach allows us to deliver the absolute best treatment and care in a fraction of time and at a more affordable price. Local Start Dental has been built by industry, academic, and dental professional collaborations since its inception. Thanks to these partnerships, we are humbled to serve patients from across the Triangle at our state-of-the-art clinic and to lead the way in prosthodontics,” says Clinical Director Dr. Mahmoud Serag.
“We have a close relationship with the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, a top three dental school worldwide. Fourth year dental students from UNC come to learn from our top clinicians. This creates a robust environment to foster learning and continual improvement in dental care,” says Doug Brown, Chair of the Local Start Dental’s Executive Committee.
The clinic has served nearly achieved 1,000 patient visits this year and is currently accepting new patients.
