In serving the diverse population of the Durham, NC area, Local Start Dental welcomes volunteer dental professionals and promotes training with dental professionals to meet the needs of our community.
We invite licensed dental professionals in the Triangle area to explore unique opportunities to volunteer, learn, network, and support oral health care for all by getting involved with the Local Start Dental team.
Dental professionals can get involved in a number of ways:
Volunteer
Dental assistants, hygienists, social workers, general practitioners, and specialists can volunteer their skills and time at the clinic. Those who are willing to provide surgery and denture services may be interested in learning and utilizing the new 3D printing technology that the clinic will employ. We can assure you that time spent volunteering at Local Start Dental will be a rewarding experience.

Support our work financially.Refer Patients in Need
We welcome referrals from area dentists who have patients lacking traditional insurance or who are Medicaid-qualified. We would be delighted to partner with you to support community members without the means to pay for out-of-pocket services (income qualification will be necessary).Learn More About Professional Development and Training

The Mission of Local Start Dental is: “Restoring smiles and confidence for neighbors in need; while advancing the clinical skills of dental professionals.”
We invite dental professionals to join us in achieving our Mission. It informs everything we do – from the type of dental care we provide to the training and development opportunities for dental professionals to our community outreach initiatives.
Our Mission in Action
In our first year of operation, we:
- Provided dental care to over 1,200 patients in need
- Served as a training ground for over 50 dental students
- Collaborated with over 30 community partners
- Engaged our Advisory Committee of 15 dental professionals
