Dr. F. Vincent Allison III

Dr. F. Vincent Allison III, a distinguished dentist based in Durham, NC, stands as a beacon of accomplishment and service in the field of dentistry. He is the son of the late F. V. “Pete” Allison, Jr. and Dr. Lavonia Ingram Allison. His comprehensive Curriculum Vitae reflects a remarkable journey of academic excellence, professional dedication, and extensive community involvement, showcases the depth of his contributions.

 

Dr. Allison's academic journey commenced at Hillside High School in Durham, where he graduated with honors in 1979. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology in 1983. Driven by a passion for dentistry, he then attended the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1987.

 

Dr. Allison's professional journey unfolded with his role as a Staff Dentist at the Bertie County Citizens Dental Clinic in Windsor, NC, from 1987 to 1992. Building on this experience, he assumed the position of Dental Director at the Stedman Family Dental Center within Stedman-Wade Health Services in Stedman, NC, from 1992 to 2001.

 

In 2001, Dr. Allison returned to Durham, establishing his private practice, Allison Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, which continues to thrive to this day. Simultaneously, he embraced an academic role as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Oral Health at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry from 2002 to the present and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of General Dentistry at the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine from 2016 to the present.

 

Dr. Allison's leadership extends to various professional organizations, including serving as the Past President of the Old North State Dental Society. He is an active member of the North Carolina Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the Durham Academy of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy. His contributions have been recognized with fellowships in both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

 

Dr. Allison's commitment to community service is unparalleled. His current involvements include serving on the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. the North Carolina Caring Dentist Program Board of Directors, the North Carolina Services for Dentistry Board of Directors (VP 2022-2023 and President 2023-2024), the NC Dental Society House of Delegates, and the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People, where he previously chaired the Health Committee. He also is serving on the UNC Adams School of Dentistry’s Admissions committee, the National Alumni Association of Hillside High School (past President) and The Local Start Dental Board of Directors.

 

He plays a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of dental professionals as the Advisor for the Student National Dental Association (SNDA) UNC Adams School of Dentistry Chapter and as the Attending Faculty/Clinic Director for the SNDA CAARES Free Dental Clinic located in downtown Durham.

 

Dr. Allison's impact on the community extends to various boards, committees, and organizations, including past roles as the Chairman of the Durham County Board of Health, the NC Dental Society Council on Prevention and Oral Health, the UNC Adams School of Dentistry Curriculum Innovation Advisory Board, the University of North Carolina Board of Visitors, the Lincoln Community Health Center Board of Directors, the Hillside High School Band Parents Organization (past President), the North Carolina Medical Advisory Committee (past Chairman), North Carolina School of Technology Commission, Ferguson-Easley Elementary School PTA (past President)  and involvement in the Fayetteville Area Minority Health Professions Association.

 

His illustrious career has been adorned with numerous honors and awards, including the "Presidents Award" from the Old North State Dental Society, the Old North State Dental Society 2001 "Dentist of the Year," the Spectacular Magazine 2013 “Man of the Year in Health,” the Old North State Dental Society 2014 “Community Service” Award,” the Old North State Dental Society 2024 “Mentor of the Year,” the Healing With CAARE, Inc. 2015 “Leadership Award”, the SS Renaissance Corporation 2018 “John H. Gattis Trailblazer Award” and the UNC Adams School of Dentistry’s Student National Dental Assoc. Chapter 2019 “Outstanding Mentor” Award.

 

Dr. Allison is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.  and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. He is married to the former Alma "Terri" Toole and they have two sons, Christopher (Elizabeth) and Bryan. Dr. F. Vincent Allison III continues to inspire through his dedication to dentistry, education, and community service, leaving an indelible mark on the dental profession and the communities he serves.
