Dr. Gail Belvett
Gail Belvett, DDS (she/her), is a general dentist, independent board director, and arts administrator. Born and raised in Canada, she moved to North Carolina to attend the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. In 2007, Gail founded Southpoint Family Dentistry and, over the course of 10 years, provided care to more than 5,000 residents of Durham, North Carolina.
Active in her community, Gail partnered with Partners for Youth Opportunity (now known as the Durham Children’s Initiative) to establish Southpoint Family Dentistry as an internship site for at-risk Durham youth interested in pursuing medical careers. She has served on the Nasher Museum National Board of Advisors and has been a member of the Duke University Health System (DUHS) board since 2016, where she currently chairs the Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Committee.
In 2018 Gail transitioned Southpoint Family Dentistry and has since deepened her involvement in the arts. She founded The Art Chose Me in 2020 and provides curatorial and administrative services to value-aligned artists and institutions in the Triangle. She continues practicing dentistry in North Carolina and St. Croix, USVI. She lives in Old East Durham with her dog, Marcus Garvey.
