Local Start Dental is a new non-profit clinic opening in downtown Durham, NC in summer 2021. Our mission is to restore smiles and confidence for our underserved neighbors while advancing clinical skills of dental professionals. Local Start Dental will be a state-of-the-art dental treatment and training center focused on high-quality tooth replacement services for veterans, the elderly, and low-income or impoverished adults throughout the Triangle and, eventually, across North Carolina. Revenue from continuing education sessions that focus on implants, surgery and digital dentures will support a sustainable model of advanced tooth replacement services for the underserved. We also exist to serve dental students and graduate specialty residents at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry as a teaching center with access to patients who otherwise cannot afford or get to the dental school.
The Clinical Director will have primary responsibility for organizing clinic activity that supports our education mission to the dental school and to practicing dentists. This position will include direct prosthetic and surgical patient care, patient triage and assignment, care coordination such that patients will be ready to benefit from the hands on continuing education training courses, follow up care for patients after these courses, and direct supervision of the students and residents in the clinic.
Education and Experience: Candidates must demonstrate excellent clinical credentials, supervisory, organizational, mentoring, customer service, written and verbal communication skills, substantial clinical experience with a strong background in all aspects of dentistry to include a strong aptitude of dental Implant surgery and Implant Prosthodontics.
Proficiency in the following clinical elements is essential:
- Diagnosis and Treatment Planning especially Terminal Dentition, Edentulous and Partially Edentulous Patients
- Presurgical Patient Evaluation
- Complete and Partial Denture Therapy Protocols, especially Digital Integrations
- Immediate Denture, Implant Overdenture and Fixed Implant Bridge Therapies
- Dentoalveolar Surgery including Surgical Extractions and Site Preservation
- Hard/Soft Tissue Management Post Extraction
- CBCT Scan Evaluation/Assessing Implant Prognosis
- Pre-surgical Implant Treatment Planning and Guide Development
- Post implant therapy patient maintenance and follow up protocols
Experience in the follow clinical elements is preferred:
- Soft and hard tissue grafting experience, sinus lift experience
- Guided Implant Surgery
- Immediate Load Surgical/Prosthetic Protocols
Ideal candidates will possess strong organization and interpersonal skills, have demonstrated leadership experience, and a commitment to diversity, inclusive and collegiality. Preferred Qualifications: completion of a GPR, AEGD, Prosthodontic, Periodontic or OMFS residency program; experience in educating dental students in clinical dental education, demonstrated implant experience; Credentials, including Master or Diplomate with ABOI, AAID, and or ICOI, a plus.
